Looking back at our third production ‘1804: Courage and Heroism’
A performance of the highest quality resulting in a standing ovation: the essence of our third concert production. On 4 March, Beethoven27 took the stage at the municipal theatre of Leuven for an excellent musical evening, followed by concerts in Ludwigsburg and Hamburg. On the programme: beautiful Beethoven music composed during his heroic period at the beginning of the 19th century.
Beethoven’s heroic chapter
During this third concert production, Jan Caeyers and Le Concert Olympique performed two iconic orchestral works that Beethoven wrote in 1804: the Third Symphony (the ‘Eroica’) and the Triple Concerto. Shortly before, he had overcome an existential crisis and had decided to make composing new music his primary mission. Both works marked the beginning of Beethoven's ‘heroic period’, a time in which he radically expanded the boundaries of music . They are considered the first great Romantic orchestral pieces in muscial history.
Three outstanding soloists on stage
With this programme, the Beethoven27 project continues its musical journey through Beethoven's long career. As with the other productions, Jan Caeyers and Le Concert Olympique were joined by American wonder pianist Kit Armstrong, who performed a Prelude and Fugue by Bach and Beethoven's Piano Sonata No 22 [1804]. The Triple Concerto was the concert's highlight, featuring two other top soloists joining on stage. Alongside Kit Armstrong, violinist Ilya Gringolts and cellist Christian Poltera performed together for the first time in this project. This concert thus proved to be an exceptional event on many levels.
Our third concert production was a resounding success! Soloists Kit Armstrong, Ilya Gringolts and Christian Poltera, together with conductor Jan Caeyers and the musicians of Le Concert Olympique, brought Beethoven’s music to life, captivating the audience with every note. Ready to experience the magic all over again?
